Water Pollution Creeps
Hundreds of Miles

Chemical spills, toxic farming can poison distant areas...

Pollutants can travel hundreds of miles

The above map of the major underground water sources in America, known as aquifers, shows that some of them span hundreds of miles.

Aquifers are layers of earth or rock which contain water or through which water may flow. Some include cave systems and underground rivers. If you could access some of them in a small submarine, you might travel for days or weeks from one end to the other. Many have been explored by scuba divers.

In areas which lack surface waters such as rivers and lakes, aquifers may supply most or all of the fresh water used by agriculture, industry, and communities. If you live in a town or city, some or all of your water may be pumped from wells which tap the aquifer in your area.

But there is a huge problem that's not often discussed, certainly not by public water utilities: Far-away pollution can make its way into your home via the aquifer that serves you.

For example, in the Carolinas near the East Coast of the U.S., gigantic pig and poultry farms generate millions of tons of waste. Some of that waste seeps down into the aquifer, and then flows into Florida!

Under the Great Plains, the enormous Ogallala Aquifer supplies nearly all the water used in the region. Conventional, highly toxic chemical farming takes place right on top of this precious water resource!

Next time you hear of a chemical spill or some other significant pollution event, please realize that the effects of such an event may extend far beyond the area that gets the headlines.

The lesson to be learned here is that individuals, families and communities should be pro-active and take steps to minimize exposure to pollution. One action is to install Ideal Earth Water filter systems: Avoid endangering your health by exposure to the toxins (like chlorine, fluoride, pesticides, dioxin and more) which may be found in water. Another action is to support pro-active farmers and companies that use non-toxic methods of production. Vote with your pocketbook, in other words. But do your homework; some of the worst polluters have the biggest "green" PR budgets!

We can all enjoy much better health, energy and longevity by living in harmony with Mother Nature. One important step is to minimize our exposure to man-made chemical hazards.
